今日のイディオム は “On the tip of one’s tongue”でーす！

“On the tip of one’s tongue” means almost but not quite brought to mind or spoken.

“On the tip of one’s tongue” の意味は、言いたいことが、喉まで出かかっている状態。

ー 姉妹の会話 ー

A: How does Johnny know I got fired from work? You weren’t supposed to tell anyone.

A: 私が仕事首になったの、何でジョニーが知ってんの? 誰にも言うなっていったじゃん。

B: I didn’t!

B: 言ってないよー!

A: Well, I know you were hanging out with him yesterday,

and I can’t think of any other way he would have found out.

A: ふーん、昨日ジョニーと遊んでたの、知ってんだけど…,

あんた以外に、考えられないんだけど。

B: No, I didn’t say anything, I promise!

It was right on the tip of my tongue,

but then I remembered it was meant to be a secret.

Maybe he heard it from one of your colleagues?

B: 何にも言ってないってば! もう少しで言っちゃうとこだったんだけど, 内緒にしておかなきゃいけないことを思い出したのー。

たぶん、同僚が言ったんじゃないの?
