Today we will be learning the idiom “the last straw”.

今日のイディオムは“the last straw”でーす！

“The last straw” means the final irritation or problem that stretches one’s endurance or patience beyond the limit.

“the last straw”の意味は、我慢してきた状況に対して限界を感じさせる最後の一言・物事。

我慢の限界。

Examples of “the last straw”:　例

“He is so noisy and disturbs all of the neighbors. Last night he came home at 4am and starting playing the drums. We can’t sleep! This is the last straw, I’m going to take action!”

“あいつは本当に近所迷惑なんだよなー。昨晩も朝の4時ごろ帰ってきて、ドラムの練習始めちゃってさー。眠れないよー。我慢の限界だー。”

“I have been unhappy at my job for months now. Then my boss told me he wants me to work weekends. This was the last straw! I am definitely going to quit.”

“このところ仕事が大変ていうかきついんだよねー。そしたら今度は週末も働けっていうんだ。もう我慢できない、絶対にやめてやるー！”

A: Oh no. This hotel doesn’t have air conditioning or clean towels.

A:　えー！このホテルエアコン無いし、タオルは汚いし。

B: I just tried to shower but there’s not hot water.

B:　シャワー浴びようとしたら、お湯でないよー！

A　B：　That’s it! That was the last straw. We’re leaving!

A　B：　モーだめだ！我慢の限界だー、こんなところに泊まれないよー！
